Location

Picton is a town in the Marlborough region of New Zealand. It is located near the head of Queen Charlotte Sound near the north-east corner of the South Island. Inter-island ferries to and from Wellington arrive and depart here daily by way of the Marlborough Sounds. The township of Waikawa  is a couple of minutes’ drive from Picton, practically part of the same town. Waikawa hosts a marina, one of the largest in New Zealand.
Leaving Picton, heading south on State Highway 1, there is only one main road out of Picton, there are several secondary coastal roads but it would be advisable to call into the tourist information office, iSite, prior to departure and get advice on routes.

Approximately twenty kilometers south of Picton is the township of Blenheim. Blenheim is at the hart of the world famous vineyards of the Marlborough wine region and is the main commercial center, from Blenheim you can head west on on Highway 6 to Nelson and the West Coast or continue south to Christchurch on State Highway 1.
